NERVOUS SYSTEM SUPPORT

MPS Pain Therapy

Microcurrent Point Stimulation

DOLPHIN NEUROSTIM
CLINICALLY SUPPORTED
NON-INVASIVE

MPS Pain Therapy is a breakthrough, non-invasive approach to pain relief that uses the Dolphin Neurostim device to apply brief, concentrated DC microcurrent impulses to specific neurological and acupuncture points — calming the nervous system, releasing muscle tension, and triggering the body's natural pain-relieving response.

Unlike traditional massage, MPS works at the neurological level — addressing the root cause of pain rather than the location of it. Many clients experience significant relief in a single session. For chronic conditions, a series of treatments produces the most lasting results.

MPS Pain Therapy, explained

Most pain treatments focus on where it hurts. MPS Pain Therapy focuses on why. By applying microcurrent stimulation to specific neurological points — points that directly influence the autonomic nervous system, spinal nerve roots, and the body's endocrine response — MPS interrupts the pain cycle at its source rather than masking it at the surface.

The Dolphin Neurostim device delivers a concentrated DC microcurrent that is thousands of times gentler than a standard TENS device. This gentleness is key — it allows the device to communicate with the nervous system rather than override it, producing a genuine calming and releasing response in the tissue.

THE SCIENCE

How MPS Works

MPS combines the principles of acupuncture, anatomical neurology, and fascia release into a single evidence-based treatment protocol delivered through the Dolphin Neurostim device.

Acupoint Stimulation

The Dolphin applies microcurrent to specific acupuncture and neurological points — including parasympathetic calming points at the wrists and ankles that directly reduce nervous system stress, release endorphins, and lower the body's overall pain sensitivity. Many clients report significant relief after this step alone.

Paraspinal Treatment

The paraspinal muscles run along each side of the spine and are often a primary driver of chronic neck and back pain, as well as referred pain. When they tighten, they compress spinal nerve roots, sending pain down nerve pathways throughout the body. MPS applied to the paraspinal muscles and corresponding shu points releases this compression, providing relief along the entire nerve pathway.

The Full Protocol

When acupoint stimulation and paraspinal/shu point work are combined in a single session, the results are greater than either treatment alone. Acupoints calm the nervous system and reduce overall pain sensitivity, making the paraspinal work more effective and longer-lasting. Together, they address both the systemic and structural contributors to pain in one comprehensive treatment.

VNS Therapy — Included in Every Session

Every MPS Pain Therapy session begins with Vagus Nerve Stimulation — shifting your nervous system into a parasympathetic state before treatment begins, making the entire session more effective. To learn more about how VNS works, visit our dedicated VNS Therapy page.

YOUR VISIT

What to Expect

MPS combines the principles of acupuncture, anatomical neurology, and fascia release into a single evidence-based treatment protocol delivered through the Dolphin Neurostim device.

01

Brief Intake & Consultation

Your session begins with a brief conversation about your pain — where it is, how long you've had it, and anything that makes it better or worse. There is no lengthy assessment required. Terri uses this information to select the most appropriate MPS protocol for your session and identify any scars or injuries that may be contributing to your symptoms.

02

Vagus Nerve Stimulation

Every session begins with VNS — applying the Dolphin device to the auricular branch of the vagus nerve via a small ear attachment. You'll rest quietly for approximately 10-12 minutes while the device delivers gentle microcurrent. Most clients notice a shift toward calm and ease during this step. This prepares the nervous system to receive the rest of the treatment more effectively.

03

MPS Protocol Treatment

Terri applies the Dolphin Neurostim to the specific points indicated by your protocol — acupoints, paraspinal points, shu points, or a combination, depending on your session length and symptoms. The device is held briefly on each point, delivering a concentrated microcurrent impulse. Most clients describe the sensation as a mild tingle or warmth. There is no pain and no needles.

04

What You Might Feel

It is common to feel noticeably calmer, lighter, and more relaxed immediately following a session. Many clients experience a significant reduction in pain intensity during or shortly after treatment. Some clients notice continued improvement over the following 24-48 hours as the nervous system continues to process and integrate the treatment. For chronic conditions, improvements typically build progressively with each session.

05

Close & Recovery

Before you leave, Terri will bring you a bottle of water. Staying well hydrated supports your body's recovery process following microcurrent therapy. Terri may also recommend a follow-up schedule based on the nature of your pain — for acute conditions, more frequent sessions may be beneficial initially, while chronic conditions often respond well to a consistent weekly or bi-weekly plan.

SAFETY INFORMATION

Contraindications & Precautions

Implanted Electrical Devices

MPS is contraindicated for anyone with a pacemaker, defibrillator, cochlear implant, or other battery-operated implanted device. The DC microcurrent can interfere with device function or affect the internal battery.

Pregnancy

MPS is not recommended during pregnancy due to limited research on microcurrent exposure during fetal development. Consult your physician before booking if you are pregnant or actively trying to conceive.

Active Cancer or Chemotherapy

Clients currently undergoing chemotherapy or radiation should avoid MPS, as its cell-stimulating effects may interfere with treatment. Please consult your oncologist before scheduling if you have an active cancer diagnosis.

Active Infections or Open Wounds

MPS should not be applied over active infections, open wounds, or broken skin. Treatment can be adapted to avoid affected areas in some cases — please discuss with Terri before your session.

Acute Infections or Fever

MPS should not be used during active infections or when a fever is present. Microcurrent stimulation may influence the behavior of infectious organisms and is not recommended until the infection has resolved.

Epilepsy or Seizure Disorders

Use with caution if you have a history of epilepsy or seizure disorders. We recommend obtaining physician clearance before beginning MPS therapy.

Not Sure If MPS Is Right for You?

Our team is happy to answer questions before you book. If you have any of the conditions listed above, we recommend consulting your healthcare provider prior to your session. When in doubt, we will always err on the side of your safety — and we can help you find an alternative service that is a better fit.
GOOD TO KNOW

Frequently Asked Questions

Is MPS Pain Therapy the same as TENS?

No — and this is an important distinction. TENS devices use alternating current (AC) and work by blocking pain signals. The Dolphin Neurostim uses direct current (DC) microcurrent that is thousands of times gentler. Rather than overriding the nervous system, it communicates with it — producing a genuine physiological response including endorphin release and nervous system calming that TENS cannot achieve.

Does it involve needles?

No. While MPS uses acupuncture points as treatment locations, the Dolphin Neurostim is a handheld device that is simply held against the skin. There are no needles, no puncturing, and no discomfort beyond a mild tingling sensation at the treatment points.

How quickly will I feel results?

Many clients experience meaningful pain relief during or immediately following their first session. For acute pain, results can be dramatic after just one or two treatments. For chronic conditions that have been present for months or years, improvement typically builds progressively — with most clients noticing significant change within 3-6 sessions.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on the nature and duration of your pain. Acute conditions may resolve in 1-3 sessions. Chronic pain generally benefits from a series of treatments — often weekly or bi-weekly — as the nervous system progressively downregulates its pain response. Terri will discuss a recommended plan during your first session.

Can I combine MPS with massage or other services?

Absolutely — MPS pairs exceptionally well with massage therapy and other bodywork. At Blue Monarch, MPS is also integrated into Neuro-Balancing Bodywork with Terri for clients who need a more comprehensive approach to chronic pain.

Is it safe?

Yes. The Dolphin Neurostim is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive device used in over 60,000 hospitals and clinics worldwide. It is safe for most clients. Terri will review any contraindications during your intake — clients with pacemakers or certain other implanted devices should consult their physician before treatment.
