ADVANCED BODYWORK
Neuro-Functional Bodywork
with Heather Hendricks LMT
Neuro-Functional Bodywork is an advanced, assessment-driven program designed for clients with specific movement dysfunctions, pain patterns with an identifiable source, or performance goals that require a more precise approach than traditional massage.
Using neurological muscle testing, movement assessment, and targeted hands-on techniques, Heather identifies the exact patterns driving your pain or restriction — and builds a personalized program to correct them, both in session and between visits.
New clients and returning clients (6+ months): Every new client begins with a 90-minute Intro session — this is where we build the full picture of your body before any treatment begins. This is also required for returning clients who haven't been seen in 6 months or more, as the body changes and your program needs to reflect that.

Neuro-Functional Bodywork, explained
Pain and movement dysfunction rarely come from one isolated muscle. More often, the nervous system has reorganized the body around a weakness, injury, or stress pattern — creating a chain of compensations that can be difficult to untangle with traditional approaches.
Neuro-Functional Bodywork works differently. Rather than chasing symptoms, Heather uses precise neurological assessments to identify what the nervous system is actually doing — which muscles are overworking, which are inhibited, and how your movement system has adapted. Treatment addresses the pattern, not just the pain.

MODALITIES & METHODS
Techniques Used
Heather draws from a range of advanced, evidence-informed modalities — selecting and combining them based on what your assessment reveals in each session.
NeuroKinetic Therapy (NKT)
A precise assessment and treatment system that uses manual muscle testing to identify compensation patterns — discovering which muscles are overworking because others have become inhibited. Soft tissue release followed by targeted activation corrects the pattern at the neurological level.
Immaculate Dissection
Dr. Kathy Dooley's functional anatomy and assessment system that rapidly identifies where the body lacks stability and why. A foundational set of assessments locates the source of dysfunction and guides precise corrective strategies based on how muscles, fascia, and nerves work together.
Neuro Re-Education
Targeted techniques that retrain the communication between the brain and specific muscles or movement patterns. Used both during the session and through personalized homework to reinforce corrections and build lasting change between visits.
Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques
Erik Dalton's brain-based bodywork system combining osteopathic principles, deep tissue work, and neural mobilization to correct postural distortions, relieve pain, and restore optimal movement patterns — applied as needed based on assessment findings.
Nervous System Assessment
A nervous system-first approach to muscle testing that identifies where the nervous system is creating protective or inhibitory responses — allowing Heather to prioritize treatment based on what the nervous system needs most, rather than working against it.
Soft Tissue & Joint Mobilization
All soft tissue techniques from Therapeutic Massage are available and applied as needed — including deep tissue, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and gentle low-force joint mobilization — in service of the assessment findings, not as a default routine.
Between-Session Therapeutic Exercise
A key part of Neuro-Functional Bodywork is what happens between visits. Heather assigns personalized movement and retraining exercises designed to reinforce the corrections made in session and continue your progress at home. These are not generic stretches — they are targeted neurological retraining activities specific to your body's patterns.
Supplemental Tools — Used When Appropriate
Heather may incorporate Vagus Nerve Stimulation via the Dolphin Neurostim device or PEMF therapy via the HealthyLine BioMat to enhance the session outcomes. These are not included in every session but are available as part of your individualized treatment plan.
WHY IT WORKS
Benefits of Neuro-Functional Bodywork
By working directly with the nervous system and movement patterns, Neuro-Functional Bodywork produces changes that build over time — each session informed by the last, and each correction reinforced between visits.
Identifies and corrects the source of chronic pain
Reduces compensatory muscle overuse and fatigue
Supports recovery from injury and surgery
Reduces chronic pain patterns over time
Restores movement patterns and motor control
Increases range of motion and movement efficiency
Improves gait and functional movement
Supports nervous system regulation
Improves postural alignment and stability
Addresses nerve-related pain and restriction
Enhances athletic performance and body awareness
Empowers clients through targeted home exercises

YOUR VISIT
What to Expect
01
Comprehensive Intake & Assessment
Your Intro session begins with a thorough intake and multi-system assessment. Heather will evaluate your posture, movement patterns, gait, and muscle function using orthopedic assessments, manual muscle testing, and neurological screening tools. This builds a complete picture of how your body is compensating and where the dysfunction is originating.
02
Targeted Treatment
Based on your assessment, Heather applies the most appropriate combination of techniques to begin correcting the patterns identified. This is not a full-body routine — treatment is precise and purposeful, focused on the neurological and structural patterns driving your symptoms. Sessions may involve movement, active participation, and repositioning as part of the process.
03
Manual Therapy Integration
When the assessment calls for it, Heather incorporates hands-on manual techniques to address the tissues contributing to your dysfunction — supporting the neurological work rather than replacing it.
04
Movement & Reintegration
Before closing the session, Heather will guide you through targeted movement exercises to reintegrate the corrections made during treatment. A brief re-assessment follows to evaluate how your body has responded — confirming the changes held and informing your homework and next session plan.
05
Close & Recovery
Before you leave, Heather will bring you a bottle of water and provide personalized movement or retraining exercises to take home. These are specific to what was uncovered in your session and are designed to reinforce the corrections made and continue your progress between visits.
